The Leonardo's STEMworks: Biotechnology program was a collection of interactive, job-related biotech exhibits that traveled the greater Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The program drew its name from Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics — disciplines critical to Utah's economic growth.
STEMworks featured mini-lab experiences based on biological principles used every day in real, local jobs. The program also connected visitors to job training programs at area high schools, colleges and the Utah Department of Workforce Services.
Biotechnology is the use of biological processes, organisms, or systems to improve quality of life and the planet. Some examples of biotechnology include getting organisms to produce new medicines or using stem cells to regenerate damaged body tissues.
Faces of Biotechnology is a series of resources from STEMworks that is still available to the public for free even though the outreach portion of STEMworks is no longer active. Interview videos and informational banners put faces to careers in this growing branch of science.
